Hot Dog Yakitori on the Fourth of July

Independence Day is arguably the most patriotic of American holidays. What’s more American than (yakitori) hot dogs and (Asahi) beer?

My husband and I decided to have a little fun on the Fourth by combining my Japanese side with my American side. The result was hot dog yakitori, an American classic with a Japanese twist.

We set up our Japanese fish grill on our fire escape, sliced up the hot dogs and the buns, skewered them, and put them on the grill for about eight minutes.

I had my skewer with wasabi horseradish, while my husband took the American route with ketchup and mustard. The fish grill was perfect for the hot dogs, and it was delightful to have Ball Park Franks yakitori-style.

Of course, we washed it all down with Asahi beer and enjoyed watching the fireworks.
