YOTEL New York

YOTEL is a hotel started by Simon Woodroffe, a British businessman who was inspired by the concept of Japanese capsule hotels. It’s definitely not your standard lodging. With its purple lighting, katakana-style logo, and futuristic lobby – complete with a robot arm that stores your luggage – YOTEL is a cool space that could just as easily be in Tokyo as it is in Midtown Manhattan.

Beginning Wednesday, October 3, YOTEL’s Terrace, the largest hotel terrace in the city, takes the form of a Japanese-inspired beer garden for the hotel’s first-ever Japanese Oktoberfest. The event features Hitachino beers from Kiuchi Brewery in Northeastern Japan, as well as Rogue Red Fox Ale and a rice ale called Samurai from the Denver-based brewery Great Divide.

Guests can enjoy these beers with specialty dishes created for the occasion by Chef Richard Sandoval of Dohyo, YOTEL’s restaurant that features Latin-Asian cuisine.

Guests on the Terrace

This was our first visit to YOTEL, and we found the Terrace to be a great spot to relax and enjoy a beer. Even though there was a light rain when we were there, the Terrace bar is covered. It’s definitely on our list of cool places with a view, rain or shine.

Japanese Oktoberfest ends on Tuesday, October 9, but if you like the beer, you can enjoy it at YOTEL until the end of this month. Read more details about YOTEL’s Japanese Oktoberfest in the events section.
