Columbia Matsuri 2013: The Photos

The Japan Society of Columbia University held its annual Matsuri on March 30. To welcome spring and to celebrate Japanese culture, organizers divided Low Plaza into different areas of Japan: Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kyushu, Nara, and Tohoku. Guests made origami cranes, dressed up in yukata, played Go, and wrote messages of encouragement to the people of Northeastern Japan. Bands played throughout the afternoon, and there was plenty of food, of course. As spring begins to take full shape, festivals such as Columbia’s will be popping up all over the city. It’s officially Matsuri season!
