Monkey Business at Joe’s Pub, a set on Flickr.

The first of a series of events celebrating the launch of Monkey Business: New Writing from Japan, a literary anthology showcasing the best in contemporary Japanese writing, was held on May 1 at Joe’s Pub. Hosted by half Japanese writer Roland Kelts, it was a great night of conversation with translators/editors Motoyuki Shibata and Ted Goossen; readings by tanka poet Mina Ishikawa, author and critic Gen’ichiro Takahashi, and fantasy writer Kevin Brockmeier; and music by Neo Blues Maki and The Suzan.
