If you’re wondering, Father’s Day is celebrated in Japan and is called Chichi no Hi (父の日). It’s a tradition that began in the 1950s.

Here are a few popular gifts for Father’s Day in Japan:

  • Alcohol – Local sake, shochu, or a personalized bottle of whisky with your dad’s name on it
  • Gourmet Food – Especially wagyu – premium Japanese beef such as Kobe beef – or eel
  • Sweets – Japanese or Western goodies from a fancy, respected shop

Wow, those gifts are a lot more fun than a necktie! Happy Father’s Day to all of you dads out there!
