Food Fairs and Festivals at Mitsuwa

When Mitsuwa Marketplace held its Kyushu Okinawa Food Fair a couple of weeks ago, I took their shuttle from Port Authority for the first time. It’s really easy, especially if you’re not bringing back a ton of groceries. I recommend buying a couple of Mitsuwa’s reusable bags, as they hold quite a bit.

The Kyushu Okinawa Food Fair introduced visitors to the local specialties of the southernmost islands in the Japanese archipelago. There were a lot of sweets from Okinawa, including sata andagi (deep-fried donut-like snack) and beni imo tarts (purple sweet potato pie). Popular ice cream shop Blue Seal served two flavors, beni imo and mango.

Awamori

Hiranoya of Nagasaki Prefecture served saba sushi. The saba (mackerel) is found in the East China Sea near the Goto Islands.

Of course, no trip to Mitsuwa would be complete without a delicious meal. I had a savory bowl of Hakata Nagahama Ramen from popular Tokyo ramen shop Tanaka Shoten.
