Top Three Japanese Video Versions of HAPPY by Pharrell Williams

Yes, by now we’re all pretty sick of hearing the song “Happy” by Grammy Award-winning, strange hat-wearing musician Pharrell Williams, but bear with me as I present the top three Japanese video versions of the upbeat tune. So if you can stomach hearing the song three more times, I encourage you to watch.

Being half Okinawan, I’m probably a little biased, but the scenery is lovely. My favorite part is near the end with the three girls wearing bingata and dancing in front of Shuri Castle.


The trendy neighborhood that’s a haven for Japan’s subculture, Harajuku is where to see Lolitas and stylishly dressed Tokyo-ites.


These performers aren’t actually dancing to “Happy,” but the moves of this traditional Obon Festival dance from Tokushima on the island of Shikoku are almost perfectly suited to the beat.
