Kiyohime on Sado Island X Kojima Chieko with Kaoru Watanabe

Sunday, October 9 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

ShapeShifter Lab – 18 Whitwell Place, Brooklyn

Cover charge: $15

In celebration of the monthlong exhibition of photographs from the photography book Kasane no Kiyohime Monogatari: The Myriad Layers of Kiyohime at Shapeshifter Lab, Kojima Chieko will be performing with Kaoru Watanabe and his ensemble and guest vocalist Yumi Nogami from Tokyo.

Maiko Miyagawa was born in Kanagawa Prefecture and received a Bachelor of Arts in photography from the Nihon University College of Art. After spending some time as a still photographer on movie sets, Miyagawa entered an apprenticeship under renowned stage photographer Hidemi Seto. Presently she works as a freelance photographer, specializing in portraits and performance photography.

Kojima Chieko, a distinguished member of the taiko performing arts ensemble Kodo, recently created a new piece based on the story of Anchin and Kiyohime from the Dojoji Tales. This work inspired a book of images entitled Kasane no Kiyohime Monogatari: The Myriad Layers of Kiyohime, a unique work created with Miyagawa and released in 2015, portraying Kiyohime over four seasons on Sado Island.

The photography exhibition runs from Sunday, October 9 through Monday, November 7.
