Queens-based Japanese cultural center RESOBOX will be holding a joint installation with pop-up store Made in Queens (MiQ) to create an innovative space to embrace the Queens art community.

MiQ is a project of the Queens Economic Development Corporation that began in 2016. MiQ’s mission is to shine a spotlight on local makers and sell small-batch, originally manufactured local products. The goal is to promote local makers and manufacturers, share their stories, and provide an opportunity for new and existing local businesses to grow and flourish.

Among the exhibiting artists will be Niizeki Hiromi, who finds beauty in discarded items, including her ongoing project “GumHeart” in which she finds heart shapes in chewed-up gum that has been thrown on the sidewalks of New York City. Jewelry designer Ryoko Kitazawa’s company, Hooks and Luxe, offers high quality, everyday fashion accessories from earrings to suspenders.
