
Children’s Tea Ceremony with Live Music

Enjoy a one-of-a-kind Sunday afternoon of Japanese tea ceremony and live music by American vocalist/composer/multi-instrumentalist Becca Stevens and Japanese composer Aya Nishina, with live video projection by Japanese photographer/video artist Shimpei Takeda.
Tea ceremony will be performed by Satoko Sugimoto of NY Zui-en-kai, and the program will be led by Nozomi Terao of the non-profit organization MSTERIO.org. Original set design by Clouds Architecture Office and sound engineering by Fernando Aponte round out the atmosphere.
All children and teens (age 3 to 18) will be served matcha green tea, and Japanese sweets provided by generous donations from 9.11 Circle Wind Concert and Wasara.
The tea ceremony is part of TEN THOUSAND LEAVES. Recently awarded a Performing Arts Japan 2015-2016 grant by The Japan Foundation, TEN THOUSAND LEAVES is a musical collaboration by Stevens, Nishina, and Takeda, delivering a series of live audio-visual performances, recordings, and one-of-a-kind educational outreach programs for local youth.
