Japan Day @ Central Park, a daylong cultural celebration of Japanese culture, has entered the world of crowdfunding. The festival, which will be held this year on May 12, has a campaign on Indiegogo, setting a goal to raise $20,000 by midnight on Sunday, March 31.
The fundraising efforts will help keep Japan Day @ Central Park free to the more than 45,000 guests who will visit. The day begins with Japan Run, a mini marathon and kids’ races hosted by New York Road Runners. The 4-mile race is a qualifier for ING New York City Marathon. Afterward, everyone can enjoy Japanese food such as udon, gyoza, okonomiyaki, yakitori; family-friendly activities such as origami, calligraphy, and yo-yo fishing; and the ever-popular stage performances of music, dance, and karate.
