Japan Performing Arts presents its Early Summer Festival, a family-friendly event with Japanese traditional activities on Governors Island.

Japanese Food Vendors

Beginning at noon, guests can enjoy Japanese street food such as takoyaki, okonomiyaki, onigiri, imagawayaki, and more.

Festival Activities

At the playground, children can participate in Japanese traditional outdoor games such as kingyo-sui, fukuwarai, daruma-otoshi, bomboo drangonfly, wanage, and a watermelon splitting game.

There will also be a Bon Odori dance workshop and a kimono-wearing demonstration by kimono expert Emi Kikuchi with kimono model Sayaka Carpenter. Amezaiku artist Candy 5 will demonstrate how Japanese traditional candies are crafted.
