Discover Japan’s best-kept secrets at Japan Week 2016, which will showcase the natural and man-made wonders of Hokkaido and Northern Tohoku. Now in its fifth year, Japan Week is a promotional tourism event organized by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO). Visitors to Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal during this three-day event will learn why Japan’s northernmost regions are premier travel destinations.

This year the spotlight will shine on the unique culture food, and technology of Hokkaido and Northern Tohoku, areas known for their ski resorts, national parks, seafood, and festivals. The new Hokkaido Shinkansen is scheduled to begin operating on March 26 of this year, so soon it will be even easier to travel from Tokyo to Shin Hakodate on the southern tip of Hokkaido.

More than 30 businesses will be represented to uncover these hidden treasures. There will be special travel packages offered by Amnet, H.I.S. International Tours, IACE Travel, Kintetsu International Express, and Delta Airlines. You can even win a trip to Japan!

Of course, there will be plenty of food to sample, with products from Hokkaido-based companies such as Santouka (ramen), Farm Designs (dairy), Haruhiro Ota Foods (seafood croquettes), and Royce’ Chocolate.

According to JNTO, there were more than 400,000 visitors to Japan Week last year, and they reached 80 million people through TV, the Internet, and social media, making it the largest Japanese tourism event in the U.S. Will it be even bigger this year?
