Japanese Culture Day: Hiroko Otani’s Urashima Taro

Art Lab, Snug Harbor Cultural Center – 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island (Building H, 2nd Fl)

This program will feature interdisciplinary art collaborations, based on and influenced by the famous Japanese folktale Urashima Taro. The story is about a young fisherman who disappears and discovers a beautiful palace under the sea. Participants will be able to experience Japanese folk arts and Japanese dance workshops along with performances in Asian fusion dance and Japanese traditional music demonstrations. Otani will also provide origami, calligraphy, and sumi painting workshops during the event.
