Ring in the Year of the Dog, Japanese style in Downtown Brooklyn!
The Brooklyn Japanese American Family Association presents a special New Year celebration that’s fun for adults and children alike.
The sound of taiko drums and samurai swords will shake your body and soul awake while you enjoy a mouth-watering selection of Japanese fried chicken, savory soups, rice balls, donburi, and other Japanese treats by Cafe Zaiya. Try your hand at origami, shogi (Japanese chess), kendama, and other Japanese folk games; have your name customized in Japanese calligraphy; and take photos in the Puribooth. The Roulette bar will be open for those 21+ looking to add a little buzz to their afternoon.
Celebrate with the entire family!
1:30 p.m. Kaoru Watanabe Taiko Center (taiko drums)
2:20 p.m. Samurai Sword Soul (sword fight show and boot camp for children)
3:00 p.m. Tanaka Taisan (giant live calligraphy performance)
3:30 p.m. Mochitsuki (traditional rice pounding ceremony)
4:30 p.m. Minbuza (Japanese folk dance)
