Kintsugi Beginner’s Class with Gen Saratani at MaKaRi
This beginner’s course in Kintsugi (金継ぎ, きんつぎ, “golden joinery”) or Kintsukuroi (金繕い, きんつくろい, “golden repair”), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique. Gen Saratani, a New York-based Japanese lacquer restorer and artist, will instruct classes at MaKaRi, which will be held on three Tuesdays in June (6, 13, 20) from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Joining in all three courses is recommended.
