Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ,) Japan’s “Harajuku Pop Princess,” fashion model, and singer, is celebrating her fifth year in show business with a highly anticipated world tour this year. On Monday, July 25, her tour brought her to New York’s PlayStation Theater where she delighted guests with a lengthy set list, multiple costume changes, trippy stage props, and numerous fun interactions with the audience.
The set list included:
KPP On Stage
5iVE YEARS MONSTER
Ninja Re Bang Bang
do do pi do
Mottai Night Land
Crazy Party Night
Saigo no Ice Cream
Kira Kira Killer
Sai & Co
Kimi ni 100 PERCENT
It was a long set – close to two hours – with a couple costume changes, a funky instrumental interlude with video and instructional dance moves for the audience to perform along with her music. Kyary dutifully played fan-favorites such as “PONPONPON,” “Fashion Monster,” and “CANDY CANDY.” She even performed her newest single, “Sai & Co,” to the delight of fans.
After the set had ended and fans proceeded to chant her name, she returned to the stage and announced an encore of two additional songs, as well as another adorable costume change!
This show was astonishingly high energy. She met every song with the utmost enthusiasm & her costumes were oh so kawaii. Many concert-goers even showed their love for her style by donning their own Harajuku-inspired outfits with colorful petticoats, light-up hair bows, platform shoes, and pastel prints.
Because Kyary does not know much English, to connect more to her audience, she read from cue-cards in English but also spoke in Japanese. She constantly connected to the audience by waving every now and then during songs and even taking a surprising group photo with the crowd!
“Sai & Co” was released worldwide on April 20 to promote her greatest hits album, KPP Best. The single is available on iTunes and all digital music stores.
