Wednesday, January 25 at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola – 10 Columbus Circle, Time Warner Center, 5th Floor
Admission: $30/$20 students
Tokyo-born composer Miho Hazama and her 13-piece jazz chamber orchestra, m_unit, will make their debut at Dizzy’s Club, an upscale jazz venue at Lincoln Center. The ensemble will perform pieces from their two records as well as new music.
A classically trained, jazz-oriented pianist with a bold and unique compositional voice, Hazama was named one of the “25 for the Future” in the July 2016 issue of DownBeat, which profiled 25 artists under the age of 40 “who will shape the direction of jazz in the decades to come.” Hazama’s music combines big band jazz, contemporary classical music, and pop, and m_unit includes strings, horns, woodwinds, and a piano/bass/drums rhythm section. The sound they create is eclectic and accessible, even for people who experienced listeners of jazz.
