New York-based Japanese singer NiA, the stage name of Orange Pekoe vocalist Tomoko Nagashima, makes her first appearance at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 3. The concert marks her solo debut concert in New York.
Formed in 1998, Orange Pekoe helped popularize Jazz and Brazilian music in the Japanese music scene. The duo has received many awards, including Japan Gold Disc Award “New Artist of the Year,” ADLIB Popular Disc Award “New Domestic Artist Award,” and JFN Listeners Award “Best Achievement Award.” Their seven original albums have sold more than 600,000 copies.
In 2012 NiA recorded her first solo album, “NIA,” in Brooklyn with co-producer, arranger, and trumpet player Takuya Kuroda. Written with all English lyrics, the album was released in September 2014 by KING RECORDS in Japan and Atlantic Records in the U.S.
Nia moved to New York in 2016 and now is working on her second album.
