Dr. Paul Sheard, Executive Vice President and Chief Economist of S&P Global, will be the September speaker for Nichibei Exchange. Dr. Sheard will give a global “state of the world” talk focusing on Japan.

Included will be his assessment of the ongoing global economic recovery following the Global Financial Crisis, an analysis of the major challenges that lie ahead, and the implications for the Japanese economy.

As Chief Economist at S&P Global, Dr. Sheard spearheads the company’s economic and market thought-leadership and engages with a broad range of market participants and external stakeholders. Teams led by Dr. Sheard provide the macroeconomic forecasts used by S&P Global Ratings’ analysts during the ratings process, conduct fixed income research, analyze credit ratings performance, and promote cross-divisional research collaboration. Dr. Sheard chairs the S&P Global Ratings Academic Council and is also a member of the S&P Global Ratings Executive Committee.

Nichibei Exchange is a group of Japanese and American business people, lawyers, academics, writers, consultants, and students who share an interest in Japan-US relations. It has been meeting monthly in New York City for nearly 30 years. Many of the Americans members have lived in Japan for extended periods and some work for or with Japanese companies. The Japanese members include both chuzai-in and long-time residents of the US.
