Love Save Japan, a group of local Japanese artists, teamed with Bond and Justice, a Japanese NPO on the ground in the recovery process in Fukushima, for a fundraiser in Times Square last week. The area’s hottest graffiti artists and DJs converged on the high-traffic tourist spot to raise money for children in Fukushima who have been affected by the nuclear meltdown of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant as a result of the earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011.
While high-profile DJs spun tunes, artists created live paintings and the crowd danced to the beat. Volunteers from the New York Japanese American Lions Club collected donations, one hundred percent of which will go directly to Japan relief efforts.
