Jyo en is an original operetta performed in a style influenced by traditional Japanese theatre. Set in Edo Period, the plight of a young married woman, wrestling with illicit desires, is told through dance, text, and arias sung in Japanese.

Jyo En is part of the MuSE Sounds of Arts Festival 2019

Multicultural Sonic Evolution (MuSE) is a Queens-based nonprofit. Composer Yui Kitamura and percussionist Chihiro Shibayama formed the organization in 2007 in order “to better the world through the power of music.”

The Sounds of Arts Festival 2019 features music and theatre written by Japanese artists and works inspired by Japanese culture. The festival runs from Wednesday, November 20 through Tuesday, November 26.
