Gantry Plaza State Park – 49th Avenue and Center Boulevard, Long Island City

Join HarborLAB and the Buddhist Council of New York for a day of meditation, music, and water activities to celebrate the UN International Day of Peace on the true equinox in New York. With the themes of peace, environmental care, and healing, the day is open to all faiths and ethical philosophies.

There will be kayaking, lantern decorating and face painting/temporary tattoos, yoga, meditation, and music. At sunset there will be speakers and interfaith prayers followed by a lantern procession with drumming. This floating lantern ceremony is inspired by Buddhist tradition and continues a 14-year partnership between HarborLAB Executive Director Erik Baard and Reverend Dr. TK Nakagaki, President of the Buddhist Council of NYC.

Event partners include Interfaith Center of New York, Global Movement for the Culture of Peace, New York Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.
