The festival kicks off with a cherry tree planting featuring representatives of the Consulate General of Japan in New York.

NY Taiko Aiko Kai will perform at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., while Junko Fisher will lead and Okinawan Pa-Ran-Ku dance at noon.

There will also be an exhibition of locally made Japanese pottery from Togei Kyoshitsu Studio NYC.

The Urban Farm also is home to four of New York City’s only rice paddies, growing six different varieties of rice from around the world.
