About the Film

Yusuke Kafuku (Hidetoshi Nishijima) is an accomplished stage actor and director who is directing a production of Uncle Vanya at a theater festival in Hiroshima. Misaki (Tôko Miura) is the reticent young woman hired by the theater company to be his chauffeur. Takatsuki (Masaki Okada) is the mysterious actor with whom Yusuke has an uncomfortable connection. Oto (Reika Kirishima) is Yusuke’s late wife, who continues to haunt him two years after her unexpected death. Yusuke balances his complex relationships with this trio and, with the help of his driver, confronts the painful truths of his past.

Hamaguchi uses quiet emotion to tell the story of love, loss, betrayal, and acceptance.
