Legendary Japanese and Okinawan dancer/instructor/choreographer Sachiyo Ito will perform in her thirty-third consecutive Brooklyn Botanic Garden Sakura Matsuri this weekend. Her company, Dancejapan, is one of only two groups to appear on stage at every cherry blossom festival presented by BBG, the other being renowned taiko drumming group Soh Daiko.
As a company versatile in various dance forms of Japan, Dancejapan will present an array of exquisitely beautiful and elegant Japanese dances from ancient to Kabuki to a contemporary piece choreographed by Ito. The 45-minute set will also feature an Okinawan dance as a special addition to their program.
They will perform on the main stage at the Cherry Esplanade Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m.
