Mar Creation, Inc. and CRS a program of the sounds, sights, and tastes of Old Japan with shakuhachi and elegant Japanese sake in a very intimate space. Shakuhachi Grand Master James Nyoraku Schlefer will play honkyoku, traditional Zen solo shakuhachi music, accompanied by images of Kyoto’s gardens and temples. It’s a truly multi-media experience not to be missed!
Schlefer is a virtuoso performer of traditional and contemporary shakuhachi music, an esteemed teacher in the Kinko school, and a ground-breaking composer. Honored by Musical America International as one of their “30 Top Professionals and Influencers,” he aims to promote and sustain traditional shakuhachi music through performances, lecture/demonstrations, residencies, and concert programming. His original compositions forge new ground with contemporary works for both Japanese and Western instruments and ensembles.
