New York-based Japanese jazz pianist Senri Oe is a best selling Sony Music recording artist who has been an influential lyricist, composer, and arranger in the Japanese music scene since his debut in 1983. He won the 1988 Japan Gold Disc Grand Prix as the Best Male Pop Artist and the FNS Pop Music Award for Best Song of the Year in 1989.
After a 25-year career in pop music, Oe changed directions, moving to New York to study jazz. He graduated from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in May 2012 and released his debut all-jazz album, Boys Mature Slow, in July of the same year, winning the Nissan Presents Jazz Japan Award for Album of the Year.
Oe is a regular at Tomi Jazz and appears at jazz clubs throughout the city.
