Taeko Returns to JAZZ at KITANO
Thursday, February 8 at 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
The Kitano Hotel – 66 Park Avenue at 38th Street
Internationally acclaimed New York-based Japanese jazz singer Taeko returns to the Kitano for two sets on February 8. She’ll be joined by Noah Haidu on piano, Marcus McLaurine on bass, and Mark Whitfield Jr. on drums.
Growing up in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, Taeko was inspired early on by the traditional Japanese music her father and grandfather played, but she also became interested in American music at a young age. She counts traditional jazz, modern American music, and Eastern music among her influences in shaping her contemporary vocal style to this day.
Taeko moved to New York City in the late 1990s and has performed at some of the most prestigious jazz clubs on the East Coast, including the Kitano, Zinc Bar, Birdland, and Blue Note. She’s released three CDs to date.
Reservations are recommended for Thursday’s performance by calling the Kitano at 212.885.7119. There is a $20 minimum food and beverage order for all guests.
