The Food Film Festival – The Food Porn Party: Tampopo
Saturday, October 21 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
AMC Empire 25 – 234 W. 42nd Street (between 7th and 8th Avenues)
The Film Food Festival returns to New York for its eleventh year, screening food-related films from Thursday, October 19 through Sunday, October 22. One of the most exciting parts about this event is The Food Porn Party featuring one of the greatest and most memorable food-films ever made: Tampopo.
This 1985 cult classic from Japan must be seen – and tasted – to be believed. The big draw of the Food Porn Party is that festivalgoers will be served the food they see on the screen at their seats. The best Japanese and ramen chefs in the country will prepare these decadent dishes, including authentic, delicious ramen from Ramen Shack’s own Keizo Shimamoto; more ramen from Ramen Tatsu-Ya in Austin, Texas; noodles from Sun Noodle; pork belly from Lumpia Shack; takoyaki from festival favorite and Queens Night Market and JapanFes sensation Karl’s Balls; hand-crafted Wagashi by master artisan Shiho Sakamoto; delectable Moffles (mochi + waffles) from Moffle Bar; plus oysters from Island Creek.
VIP tickets are sold out, but general admission tickets are still available. The $95 ticket price includes food, drink, theatre seating, and after-party access. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit the Food Film Festival’s website.
Dir. Jûzô Itami
The tale of an enigmatic band of ramen ronin who guides the widow of a noodle shop owner on her quest for the perfect recipe, Tampopo serves up a savory broth of culinary adventure seasoned with offbeat comedy sketches and the erotic exploits of a gastronome gangster. Sweet, sexy, surreal, and mouthwatering, Tampopo remains one of the most delectable examples of food on film.
