Ronin Gallery – 425 Madison Avenue (3rd fl)
Last year, Cyoko Tamai was selected as Japan Society’s 2014 Summer Artist in Residence and had a solo exhibition in their gallery space as part of the Residency. She also had a sold-out exhibition last year at Ronin Gallery.
Ronin Gallery welcomes her back as she presents her 30 newest works for Asia Contemporary Art Week.
From Kōchi Prefecture, Tamai currently lives and works in Tokyo. She uses the thinnest washi paper to create three-dimensional art using ink and paint while pulling fine fibers from the washi with a fine-pointed steel pen. It is a unique style of ‘paper painting’ and Tamai uses much skill and discipline in her craft.
