The Nippon Gallery at The Nippon Club will host COLOR PASSION ELEGANCE, an exhibition featuring artistic jewelry and paintings by Mariko Dozono.
The Kagoshima-born artist started jewelry design while studying graphic design at art school in Tokyo. After relocating to the U.S. in 1971, she studied at the Jewelry Academy at the New School in New York. Various jewelry industries came to recognize Dozono’s delicate and elegant works. She designed and produced jewelry for George Jansen in the U.S. and Gucci in the U.S. and Canada. She has since shifted her focus from mass production to private customers.
In addition to her jewelry design, Dozono has worked vigorously in painting since 2002. Her works range from oil pastels overlaid with Kanazawa’s gold leaf and oil paintings to collages composed of gold and silver threads.
Dozono held a solo exhibition at Nishi Azabu, Tokyo, in 2004 and has had other exhibitions in New York, Geneva, and Taipei. Her solo exhibition held at the Ginza Mitsukoshi Gallery in 2017 was a great success. More exhibitions are slated for next year.
COLOR PASSION ELEGANCE makes up Dozono’s art concept and her lifestyle. The brilliant colors, pastels, and gold leaf of her paintings overflow from the canvas full of passion Her delicate and elegant jewelry can be described as “wearable art.”
