Japanese Translators of NYC and Baurch College Japanese Program present a special talk with Japanese-to-English translator Claire Tanaka. “I’ve got Rhythm: Translating and Interpreting for Japanese Musical Theatre” takes a look at translating songs and plays from Japanese into English.

Tanaka is the translator of After Happily Ever After, a musical fairy tale by Japanese theater troupe Kaso Jogi. The musical will have a run at HERE from March 4 through March 8.

For this translating exercise, Tanaka will show participants a song from a play she has translated. Everyone will hear the song in Japanese, and she will give participants the lyrics to see how they would translate it. Then she will show the group how she translated it.

Join in the Japanese-to-English translating fun! If you want to learn and explore more about translating songs and plays from Japanese to English, this event is for you!
