Celebrate Sake Day with a live recording of Sake Revolution, America’s first sake podcast at Brooklyn Kura! This year’s episode features special guest Austin Power, New York's most seriously silly sake sommelier and the man behind Accidental Bar, downtown's beloved neighborhood sake joint on Avenue C. Join hosts John Puma and Timothy Sullivan as they talk to Power about his take on the sake scene in New York City.

A South Carolina kid turned Parsons-trained painter turned sake evangelist, Power’s mission has been, in his own words, "get more people drinking more sake, more irresponsibly" and "if you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong". He honed this philosophy over a decade at legendary NYC sake spots before opening Accidental Bar in 2021.

Puma and Sullivan will dive into how to get more people drinking more sake, more irresponsibly and what is the best path forward with the staid and serious world of "Sake Education."

You’ll hear real talk on trends, challenges, and bright spots from the sake-selling trenches of NYC. Learn how the sake scene here grew from a handful of pioneers into one of the best sake-drinking towns outside Japan.

An evening with Austin is entertainment. Less lecture, more live show: equal parts tasting, talk show, and party. You'll laugh, you'll sip, and somewhere along the way you'll accidentally learn a lot about sake.

Your ticket includes a tasting flight hand-picked by Austin himself: Accidental Bar favorites, poured and tasted together during the recording. There will be a live audience Q&A segment, so bring your questions.

Come early for happy hour, stay late at the taproom bar, and celebrate Sake Day the only correct way: glass in hand, with friends. Because as Austin says, "If I can see you, aren't we already friends?!"

What is Sake Day?

October marks the beginning of the sake-brewing season in Japan. The month is perfectly situated for brewing, as it is just after the September rice harvest and leads into winter, which is the ideal time for fermentation. October 1st is celebrated as Nihonshu no Hi, or World Sake Day. It was officially designated as such by the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association in 1978.
